Parent Dies After all Children, Leaving Surviving Grandchildren
We’ll use the same family tree for all our detailed examples:
If Jane dies as a widow, after all her children:
- Charles is disregarded.
- Jane’s grandson through Bertha, Howard, gets his mother’s share, 1/3.
- Jane’s grandchildren through Doris (Nick and Liz) split their mother’s share and get 1/6th each.
- Jane’s grandchildren through Alfred (Joe, Heather, and Barbara) split their father’s share, and each get 1/9th each.
